Mr. Zuckerberg owns 28% of Facebook’s stock, and controls 57% of its voting rights, giving him the freedom to act independently if he wants. Mr. Systrom, similarly, owns about 45% of his company. That control means investors must accept the fact that the CEOs can move quickly.
Genius.
A two year old company with nearly 30 million users on multiple mobile platforms still not making a dime and continuing to take millions of dollars in funding? Yeah, selling to Facebook was probably a good call. In the end, though, I think there’s a high likelihood users lose in this deal.

I’m excited to share the news that we’ve agreed to acquire Instagram and that their talented team will be joining Facebook.
Och nöö, das gefällt mir überhaupt nicht. Instagram war für mich immer dieser kleiner, nette Service, den aber Millionen Menschen nutzen und lieben. Ein Produkt, dass langsam gewachsen ist und gelernt hat auf eigenen Beinen zu stehen. Ich hoffe sehr, dass es das trotz des Aufkaufs von Facebook irgendwie bleiben kann und nicht zu sehr in den “Socialsumpf” von Facebook gesogen wird.
Indizien dafür, dass alles halbwegs gut bleiben könnte liefert Zuckerberg:

Als großer Fan von Instagram hoffe ich sehr, dass die Jungs und Mädels wissen was sie da tun und alles so cool bleibt, wie es bisher war.
Hackers are allergic to process not because they don’t understand the value; they’re allergic to it because it violates their core values. These values are well documented in Zuckerberg’s letter: “Done is better than perfect”, “Code wins arguments”, and that “Hacker culture is extremely open and meritocratic”. The folks who create process care about control, and they use politics to shape that control and to influence communications, and if there is ever a sentence that would cause a hacker to stand up and throw his or her keyboard at the screen, it’s the first half of this one.
So wichtig “hacking” auch ist, braucht eine erfolgreiche Firma auch Leute, die alles in geordneten Bahnen hält. Wie so oft ist es die Balance, die den größten Erfolg verspricht.

Yammer ist jetzt nicht mehr nur internes Twitter für Unternehmen, sondern wird auch allmählich internes Facebook für Unternehmen. Eine wirklich gute Mac App wäre mal prima. Adobe Air ist fürchterlich und Gabble (Drittanbieter) bräuchte auch dringend mal ein Update.
Aber wer weiß, vielleicht bringen die Veränderungen einen ja auch, die Webseite regelmäßiger zu nutzen. Ich komme mir da nur leider immer vor wie auf einem hässlichen Facebook.
Paul war langweilig und ließ sich ein paar viele Fragen per Facebook stellen, die er dann im Schnelldurchlauf beantwortet hat. Wie immer, unterhaltsam.
Ich war ja auch schon immer großer Fan der mobilen Facebook Webseite. Mit der iPad App haben auch die mobile Webseite und die iPhone App ein Update bekommen und beide sind nun im Grunde identisch und folgen dem Navigationskonzept der iPad App. Das sieht hervorragend aus und funktioniert bestens. Ich bin begeistert. Ich mochte diesen Facebook-App internen Homescreen eh noch nie.

Ich halte es für einen klugen Schritt, die Messages aus der eigentlichen Facebook-App raus in eine eigene App zu holen. Die Mutterschiff-App ist teilweise arg langsam, aktualisiert nicht richtig und wirkt einfach überladen. So gerne ich die Anzahl der Apps auf meinem iPhone gering halte, das ist der richtige Schritt.
Die App ist leider noch nicht im deutschen App Store angekommen.

Ich bin noch immer mit Safari unterwegs und mittlerweile gefällt mir der Browser richtig gut. Gerade habe ich eine sehr coole Extension entdeckt, die gerade in Version 2 geht und YouTube-, Vimeo- und Facebookvideos durch einen sehr schicken und super funktionalen HTML5 Player ersetzt. Funktioniert bestens und schont meinen MacBook-Lüfter.
