11 Takeaways From Zuckerberg’s First Interview Since Facebook’s IPO

People at Facebook are used to the press saying good and bad things,“ he said. What motivates Facebook employees „is building stuff that they’re proud of. This isn’t just Facebook. This is universal … It’s a great time for people to stay and double down.

Mark Zuckerberg yesterday at TechCrunch Disrupt, giving his first interview since the IPO.

Sony introduces world’s first full-frame compact camera

Olivier Laurent for BJP:

As of 12 September, Sony’s Cyber-shot DSC-RX1 is said to be the world’s first compact camera with a 35mm full-frame 24.3 effective megapixel sensor.

Sweeeeet. I always wondered when this would happen. Looks like this is the perfect street camera, besides probably being also great for everything else.

Sticky Menus Are Quicker To Navigate

Hyrum Denney for Smashing Magazine:

Participants were then asked whether one of the websites felt easier to use. Six of the 40 participants had no preference, but of the 34 that did have a preference, 100% of them indicated that the website with the sticky navigation was easier or faster to use.

As we redesigned the header of QUOTE.fm we also tried sticking it to the top so that you always have access to the menu and your notifications. We felt that it’s really good to use and doesn’t distract too much and also doesn’t take away too much screen space even on a 11″ MacBook Air. It also works great on the iPad and especially on the iPhone it’s very handy. Seems like we made the right call on this one.

Responsive Web Design Resources

A collection of resources about the various aspects of responsive web design.

Wow, nice work by Brad Frost and Pon Kattera who put this thing together. Before you google on a Responsive Design/Development topic you should definitely check this resource first. There seem to be articles on everything: Strategy, Design Tools, Layout, Media Queries, Typography, and so on.

QUOTE.fm Read and iPad App

After months of work we finally did it. Yesterday we introduced QUOTE.fm Read and with it QUOTE.fm for iPad.
I hope you like it as much as we do. So let’s start Social Reading together. Thank you so much for your support. <3

Clarity over brevity in variable and method names

David on Signals vs. Noise:

At times being exceedingly clear will seem almost silly at first glance. The name of the method or variable can be longer than the operation being performed! But the silliness quickly dissipates the first time you return to a piece of code and know exactly what it does.

Same goes for CSS class names. At times I think it’s totally stupid how long a class name can get but it almost always pays off in understanding my code even months later.

Big CSS – Slides from Harry Roberts‘ talk

You remember Harry Roberts? Sure you do. He recently was at Canvas Conf in Birmingham and talked about ‚Big CSS‘. It’s sad that there won’t be a video, but Harry put up his slides from the talk on Speakerdeck and I encourage you to click through them, read them and think about them. Even without him talking you can learn some things. Gogogo!
