CSS4 Preview – Selectors

David Walsh:

The W3C recently posted an update to the working Selectors Level 4 spec, and there are many useful updates to be found. Let’s have a look at what new CSS selectors and features will be available to us in future browsers!

I’m especially excited about the $E > F selector. It allows to style an element $E which contains a child element F.
That’s a selector I wished for several times in the past.

Media queries now a W3C Recommendation

Tanya Combrinck:

We’ve all been using them for some time, but now Media Queries have the fully fledged stamp of approval from the W3C.

Media Queries are now officially recommended by the W3C. That’s good news for the future of responsive Webdesign.

New Tumblr App

There it is, the all new tumblr App for iPhone and iPad. Looks pretty neat and works like a charm. If you use tumblr you’ll love this.

CSS variables in WebKit

Stoyan Stefanov:

Weeee, CSS variables just landed in WebKit, this is pretty exciting!

There is a long way to go until we really can use CSS variables in our day to day work, but this is a step in the right direction.

Fluid Type

Trent Walton:

That’s my approach to fluid type today, but this is completely malleable. It was a little different a week ago and will hopefully evolve with the web and all the devices we’re to accommodate in the future. Here are some of the key things I find myself waffling on, especially when it comes to wide views.

Trend Walton talks about Fluid Type – his current approach and the future. Very interesting.

Screencasting a Complete Redesign

Chris Coyier:

Hey folks! Here’s the plan in a nutshell:

I’m going to redesign CSS-Tricks.com

I’m going to turn it into an educational experience for everybody by screencasting the entire process.

By helping me out on Kickstarter, you get access to that library of screencasts, and more!

I just backed the Kickstarter project by Chris Coyier, who will screencast the whole redesign of his site CSS-Tricks. With your pledge you get access to all the screencasts in a private area on CSS-Tricks.
I’m really looking forward to see how he works and I’m sure I can learn a lot along the way.
So it’s not only a great way to support Chris going full time with CSS-Tricks but also a fun way to learn some new things.
