Writing your own blog platform is like roasting your own coffee: it’s impractical and you probably shouldn’t do it, but for people who really, truly care about it, it’s worthwhile to them for their own personal priorities that sound crazy to everyone else.

I really would like to do that to have full control over everything but I don’t have the know-how. Sure, I could learn it over time, but I’ve set my priorities elsewhere. So maybe I don’t care enough about my blogging CMS.

Rather than eagerly anticipating the next 15” revision, I took this opportunity to buy what’s likely to be the last 15” MacBook Pro that can hold two standard 2.5” drives.

Und genau hierüber denke ich auch nach. Ich hatte eigentlich vor das neue 15″ MBP in hoffentlich einer MacBook Air Form abzuwarten, allerdings muss ich feststellen, dass ich nur mit SSD nicht auskommen werde, da mein Fotoarchiv einfach zu groß ist und zu schnell wächst. Das würde bedeuten, ich muss immer eine externe HD mit mir rum tragen, was absolut keine Option ist.

Das heißt also entweder mit meinem 13″ so lange ausharren bis die zweite 15″ MBP Generation in flacher Form kommt und SSDs im 1TB Bereich erschwinglich sind oder jetzt noch auf das wahrscheinlich letzte 15″ MBP hüpfen, dass SSD und fette HDD halten kann und dann damit so lange irgend möglich arbeiten, was auch absolut kein Problem sein sollte.

Guter Artikel von Marco Arment. Genau aus den Gründen, die er im Beitrag nennt, habe ich zum Beispiel damals mein visuellesTagebuch nicht mit irgendeinem Service aufgebaut sondern selbst mit WordPress gehostet und als Subdomain von visuellegedanken.de abgelegt. (Apropos, Tatjana fragte mich glaub gestern was denn damit sei. Ich sollte das vielleicht mal wieder aufleben lassen.) Außerdem sende ich nie mit meiner Google E-Mail-Adresse. Ich sorge immer dafür, dass die „geheim“ bleibt und ich Mails auf meine @visuellegedanken.de Adresse bekomme und diese auch der Absender ist. So habe ich jederzeit die Möglichkeit einfach auf einen anderen Service zu wechseln, bzw meinen eigenen Webmailspace zu nutzen. Klar, die Mails liegen trotzdem noch bei Google, aber für einen außenstehenden macht es keinen Unterschied, was ich schonmal wichtig finde.
