A family portrait

Two weeks ago I had a family portrait shooting. It was my first time making photos with kids and I had a lot of fun. And I think Leo did too.
If you think you’ve seen these faces before, it’s because you actually have. I photographed Lorena and Dennis wedding almost two years ago.
So enjoy the photos, I hope you like them as much as I do.

Sylt part II

As promised I’ve got some more photos from Sylt to share with you. As it turns out there will even be a third part with photos from the oyster farm we visited. I want to post them in a separate entry to not mix things up too much.

Testing the Lumix G5 on Sylt

Last week Panasonic invited me and a bunch of others to Sylt to test the new Panasonic Lumix G5. In on it were Stefan Groenveld, Torsten Muehlbacher, Michael Kirchner, Felix Meyer, Marcel Wichmann, Manfred Huszar and Christoph Boecken.

As last year on Mallorca, where we layed our hands on the G3, it was a lot of fun and perfectly organized by JDB – thanks to Catie.
We had two days packed with sun, rain, wind and a lot of activities. Thank you Panasonic!

I have to say I like Sylt and would like to go back there to photograph more of the landscape and the people. It’s an interesting mix.

Short review of the Lumix G5

The Lumix G5 is a really good camera in it’s market. It sits perfectly in my rather small hands and after knowing the Lumix G3 I was really quickly comfortable using it. The AF is fast and the electronic shutter is completely silent. That makes this camera perfect for shooting completely unnoticed. Combined with the brilliant 20mm f/1.7 pancake lens it’s a small, light and very fast camera.
I can’t say much about the image quality because I’m not able to process the RAW files, yet. The JPGs look good, though.

If you are in the game of buying a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, definitely have a closer look at this one.

Shooting square format right out of the camera is what I really like and what my X100 isn’t able to do. So I took the opportunity and only shot squares on Sylt.

But now let’s look at some images I shot with it on the first day. I will post photos from day two in a separate entry. As I said these are JPGs, processed in Lightroom.

Had a pretty heavy rain shower today here in Hamburg. I snapped this one out of my window which was open all the time. I like the sound and the smell of the rain, especially if it was warm before. Have a nice sunday evening.

QUOTE.fm Barbecue

The summer in Hamburg is finally here – at least for a few days. So yesterday we decided to have a small barbecue celebrating our QUOTE.fm iPad app beta. I had a hard time deciding between processing the photos in color or black and white. I went with the latter as you can see. I think it’s harder to take and develop a good black and white image but I think it turned out well. Stay with me or just wait until Marcel posts his color photos from yesterday afternoon.

Throw a ball

I shot this photo last weekend as I took a walk around our office. It has no deep meaning or something like that, the scene just caught my attention and I like the result. I can’t tell why, it even is in portrait orientation which is quite unusual for me but it just worked better.

Bonn.

On our trip to Bonn last week we stayed at the InterCity Hotel next to the main station. The room was okay and the breakfast good. Just the view out of my window wasn’t quite that nice, but as someone pointed out to me on Facebook, it seems to summarize the look of Bonn quite well.
No offense.
