Johannes Heuckeroth:

Da war eine straffe Planung nötig um alle sehenswerte Ziele unterzubringen. Konzentrieren wollte ich mich in der kurzen Zeit auf die neuen beeindruckenden Welten in Dubai, die Bauten an der Sheikh Zayed Road, Downtown und New Dubai, auf den unwirklichen Kontrast zwischen Wüste und Megacity. In diesen Gebieten wollte ich Tag und Nacht unterwegs sein und so viel Material wie möglich sammeln.

Johannes Heuckeroth erzählt von den Vorbereitungen und Zielen seiner Dubaireise. Ich freue mich auf den zweiten Teil.

John Carey:

There goes Apple again making more work for me. The apparently beautiful new iPad screens have a remarkably high resolution, nearly as big as the large, full size desktop wallpapers I offer. Knowing this I knew it was time to jump in and start cropping images for all of the new iPad owners out there. It’s a bit time consuming but you guys know I love you so here we go.

Dank des Retina Display sehen die meisten vorhandenen Wallpaper nur so mittelmäßig aus. John Carey bietet die beliebtesten iPad Wallpaper von fiftyfootshadows jetzt auch in Retina Auflösung an. Falls ihr ein iPad 3 habt, schaut auf jedem Fall mal vorbei.

Und so sah der Blick aus meinem Zimmerfenster vor drei Minuten aus. Jetzt ist die Sonne schon hinter den Dächern verschwunden.
Es ist viertel nach sechs und es ist noch mehr oder weniger hell, das heißt der Frühling naht und das freut mich.

Felix Meyer:

Nunja. Stehende Autos hatte ich schon oft fotografiert. Fahrend aber allerdings nur vom Straßenrand. Bis auf das letzte Foto sind alle aus dem Kofferraum eines anderen Autos entstanden. Das letzte machte ich während ich aus dem Beifahrerfenster hing. Ziemlich spaßig.

Geil! Wenn Felix nicht irgendwann Geld mit Fotografie verdient, liegt das wohl nur daran, dass er es nicht will und nicht daran, dass er es nicht könnte.

Lukas Mathis:

After downloading and playing around with Apple’s new iPhoto for iOS, I felt like I was teleported back to 1998. Touching and gesturing in different ways would make seemingly random things happen. I regularly unintentionally activated features, changed views, opened or closed pictures, and got iPhoto into states I wasn’t sure how to get out of again.

Ich war bis heute noch in Kassel bei Tatjana und halte mein iPad 3 daher erst seit ein paar Stunden in der Hand, weshalb ich iPhoto für iPad noch nicht testen konnte. Bisher hörte ich allerdings nichts wirklich gutes. Lukas Mathis bringt die Probleme, die ich auch mit der iPhone Version hatte, sehr gut auf den Punkt.

Hackers are allergic to process not because they don’t understand the value; they’re allergic to it because it violates their core values. These values are well documented in Zuckerberg’s letter: “Done is better than perfect”, “Code wins arguments”, and that “Hacker culture is extremely open and meritocratic”. The folks who create process care about control, and they use politics to shape that control and to influence communications, and if there is ever a sentence that would cause a hacker to stand up and throw his or her keyboard at the screen, it’s the first half of this one.

So wichtig „hacking“ auch ist, braucht eine erfolgreiche Firma auch Leute, die alles in geordneten Bahnen hält. Wie so oft ist es die Balance, die den größten Erfolg verspricht.

I will say right now that ME…I am not a fan of the design at all. In use it is very boxy, not ergonomic, and feels like I am shooting with one of those toy cameras you see in the little kid isle at a toy store.

Ich finde das Design einfach nur furchtbar. In schwarz noch halbwegs zu ertragen, aber was soll denn diese gelbe Variante?

Philipp Waldhauer:

Today marks the release of the first version of our API. Please note that, for now, it only features basic functionality and, most importantly, that it’s currently read-only.

Wir haben heute die read-only API von QUOTE.fm gelauncht. Schaut euch doch schon mal in unserem noch recht kleinen, aber in Zukunft wachsenden Labs-Bereich um und macht euch mit den Basisfunktionen der API vertraut. Wir sind gespannt welche Ideen ihr habt und was ihr mit den neuen Möglichkeiten anstellen werdet.

Ich muss wohl niemandem erzählen wie sehr mich diese Einladung freut, oder?
