  While the mobile web visitor numbers of CNN grow they decide to equally push their mobile website as well as their apps. Read about why they decide to do so.

• Sky parental controls break jQuery website
  A good reason for hosting jQuery or something similar yourself instead of relying on an external service like code.jquery.com.

• BBC News Responsive Beta
  This is a link to a responsive Beta theme of the BBC News. Looks pretty awesome.

• net awards 2014
  The voting is now open until March, 24th. Awesome people to vote for.

• IE and Chrome usage over time
  What a beautiful chart. Look at IE8.

• “Just”
  Brad Frost makes you think about the little word “Just”. Highly recommended read.

• What’s with putting the CSS in the head?
  Interesting article that advocates putting CSS in the head instead of storing it in a separate file. He makes convincing arguments. We just need a simple way to automate the transition from developing in separate files to including the CSS in the head in the final production site.

• Things I’ve Learned On Planet Earth
  Not development related but nevertheless a great list by Daniel Eden.

• Understanding the GitHub Workflow
  This is a nice and easy to understand explanation of how the GitHub Workflow works.

• YOU MIGHT NOT NEED JQUERY
  If you want to try staying away from jQuery and write pure Javascript, this site might help you. Related:

• The first year as a themeforest author
  Very interesting article on selling themes on ThemeForest. Sounds fun, even though the earnings aren’t that much, considering they need to suffice for two people.

Mittlerweile haben Philipp und Marcel die Frage schon beantwortet.
Hier nun mein Homescreen.

General: Der Ordnern mit diversen allgemeinen Dingen, die ich zwar gerne auf dem Homescreen haben möchte, die aber dennoch nicht so oft benötigt werden, dass sie direkt sichtbar sein müssten: Telefon, App Store, Wetter, One Password (Passwortverwaltung mit Sync), Google Maps und Moves (um aus irgendwelchen Gründen zu tracken wo ich rumlaufe und vor allem auch wie weit).

Calendar: Die Standard Kalender App. Braucht man halt. Ich mochte sie allerdings unter iOS 6 lieber, da man einzelne Tage in der Monatsansicht antappen konnte und dann unten in der Leiste die Events angezeigt bekommen hat. Diese Funktion gibt’s nicht mehr und ein Tap führt immer direkt auf die Tagesseite, was mich nervt. Habe mich aber trotzdem noch nicht nach einer neuen App umgeschaut.

Photos: Ich fotografie viel mit dem iPhone und schaue auch gerne regelmäßig durch die gemachten Bilder. Neben Day One eine Art Tagebuch.

Settings: Würde vermutlich auch gut in den General Ordner passen, war aber schon immer oben rechts auf meinem Homescreen und gehört von daher irgendwie für mich dahin.

Day One: Digitales Tagebuch schreiben mit allerhand netten Features. Mac App und Sync über iCloud oder Dropbox gibt’s auch. Ich hatte es immer mal wieder angefangen, aber nie wirklich durchgezogen obwohl ich den Gedanken an ein Tagebuch super finde. Seit 31.12.2013 habe ich jetzt aber regelmäßig etwas eingetragen. Gerne auch mal nur ein Foto mit einem kurzen Satz.

Pocket: Hat gerade frisch Instapaper ersetzt, weil ich mit letzterem zunehmende Sync-Probleme hatte. Mal schauen wie sich Pocket macht.

VSCOcam: Meine absolute Lieblings Fotobearbeitungsapp. Ich habe etliche getestet, fand dann die erste VSCOcam Version schon großartig und die aktuelle App ist einfach grandios. Die ganze Firma scheint recht super zu sein, denn ich nutze auch einige Lightroom Presets sehr gerne.

Clock: Brauche ich irgendwie andauernd. Wecker stellen und kontrollieren, kurze Time einstellen beim Kochen, etc.

Spotify: Musik. Alles wann ich will. Seit ich ein recht großen Datenvolumen habe, streame ich auch recht häufig unterwegs.

Instagram: Hier teile ich im Prinzip alle meine iPhonefotos und folge zig Leuten. Macht einfach immer Spaß. Egal ob es Fotos von Freunden sind und man etwas aus ihrem Leben mitbekommt oder ob es Streetfotografen aus der ganzen Welt sind. Eine tolle Community.

IRCCloud: Der IRC Client meiner Wahl, für den ich sogar monatlich zahle und der dafür sorgt, dass ich immer online bin und alles nachlesen kann. Bin sehr zufrieden. Am Mac nutze ich die Weboberfläche verpackt als Fluid App.

Foursquare: Ich mag’s. Warum weiß ich auch gar nicht so genau. Ich checke aber brav ein und sammle so Daten über mich selbst. Außerdem gucke ich gerne wo sich Freunde so rumtreiben.

Twitter: Ich nutzte eigentlich immer Tweetbot, teste aber gerade mal wieder die offizielle Twitterapp. Mal abwarten wie das ausgeht.

Mail: E-Mail. Gibt’s eigentlich nichts drüber zu sagen. Funktioniert. Ich probiere allerdings auch regelmäßig die Google Mail App.

Safari: Tut was er soll. Webseiten anzeigen. Auch hier wechsele ich regelmäßig zum Google Produkt Chrome.

Messages: Brauche ich ständig und ist im Freundeskreis das Hauptkommunikationsmittel (neben Twitter und IRC).

Hello and welcome to another Weekly Recap. This week is a nice mix of CSS, Javascript and general topics. Let’s dive in:

• Responsive Javascript
  Most of us know a lot more about responsive CSS than about responsive Javascript. So go ahead and have a look at this one-pager that answers questions like „What is Responsive Javascript?“ and „What are the Browser APIs?“.

• Use zero-width spaces to stop annoying Twitter users
  Harry Roberts has a simple trick for you how to write @import or other @-statements in tweets without mentioning users.

• CSS animation-fill-mode
  I recently searched for exactly that: Being able to stop an animation at 100% and don’t have it going back to 0%. Works in IE10 and newer and all the cool kids on the block. I also created a CodePen.

• Adaptive Backgrounds
  Cool jQuery plugin that extracts dominant colors from images and applies them to their parent elements.

• Single Line Comments (//) in CSS
  I’m writing CSS on a daily basis for years now and I wasn’t aware of CSS not really supporting single line comments. Probably because it always worked for me because I either didn’t minify my CSS in the past or Sass is now doing some magic for me which allows me to use single line comments. Either way, necessary read.

• DevSwag

• 30 years of Macintosh
  On Friday, January 24th 2013, the Macintosh turned 30. This is the video and page Apple put together to celebrate. Well done.

• Sitespeed.io
  This is an awesome tool to analyze your sites performance and get helpful tips how to improve it. You need to handle it via the command line but it’s really worth to learn it.

Marcel von Saving Princesses und ich spielen gemeinsam Dota 2. Das machen wir jetzt schon wieder eine Weile nahezu täglich und so ganz langsam sind wir auch gar nicht mehr so scheisse. In dieser Runde spiele ich mit Lion und Marcel mit Wraith King (ehemals Skeleton King). Das ist damit dann auch die Premiere eines anderen Spiels als Battlefield in meinem Channel. Viel Spaß!
